An eight-year-old boy who was pulled from a community lake in Calgary has died in hospital, police said.

EMS rushed the boy to Alberta Children’s Hospital, accompanied by a firefighter who continued CPR. In a press release on Wednesday, police said the child, identified only as Raviansh, died in hospital as a result of suffocation. The drowning is being ruled non-criminal and police have released a statement on behalf of the child’s family. “Our family is experiencing the deepest sadness and grief as we deal with the sudden, tragic loss of our son,” the family said in the statement. “Raviansh was an amazing and loving child and brought so much joy to our hearts.
