Computer models underestimated the strength of the instability and wind shear present in southern Ontario on Wednesday, which allowed afternoon storms to develop and become intense in some places. A storm created an overflow over eastern Lake Huron Wednesday afternoon. Many people around Sauble Beach watched the spectacular sight as the shadowy body of water opened up a large cloud of mist at its base. Residents reported heavy hail and strong winds across the region, including some damage near Kingston. Environment and Climate Change Canada issued numerous tornado warnings across eastern Ontario into the early evening hours as the storms affected wind shear and developed rotation.
