As it is revealed the Queen has given the event her ‘royal blessing’, organizers say two new presentations will take place during the four-day event. This year’s show has been renamed a special Platinum Jubilee Bournemouth Air Festival.
What are the two new screens? The US B-52 bomber is set to make an appearance on Saturday before the Red Arrows fly their special Platinum Jubilee formation. Meanwhile, the iconic Second World War hero Spitfire will join the mighty modern Typhoon for several thrilling passes on Friday. Read more:
What did the Queen say about the Air Festival? Bournemouth Mayor Cllr Robert Lawton celebrates a letter from the Queen giving her best wishes at this year’s festival. Cllr Lawton wrote to the Queen earlier in the year inviting her to the festival, which he said was dedicated to Her Majesty and aimed to celebrate her 70 years of service. In a letter, the Queen’s Diary Secretary, Mrs Helen Cross, said the Queen would not be able to attend but she hoped “very much that the Air Festival is a successful and enjoyable one for all who attend”. Cllr Lawton said: “It is a huge privilege to receive this letter from the Queen in her historic platinum year. Anything else new for this year? Sunseeker’s high-performance day boat, the Hawk 38, will go head-to-head with the G-JPIT aeroplane, in the new Sea and Sky Sprint.
