Well, the answer is that the new foldables are also IPX8 certified. X indicates no dust protection, while 8 tells you how water resistant these devices are. The two phones can be submerged in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes, and a little rain or the occasional accidental liquid spill shouldn’t cause any damage. However, there are some limitations. The ingress protection rating is based on fresh water not falling into the phone with excessive pressure. Use near a beach or swimming pool is not recommended by Samsung and may cause damage that is not covered by the warranty if something untoward happens. Of course, if you buy any of the new collapsibles, it’s best not to bring them near any kind of water if you can help it. But you can be sure that in most cases water exposure is unlikely to be a problem. Dust resistance, on the other hand, is not available on either phone, as already mentioned, although Samsung will hopefully be able to address this in the next couple of years.
