According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sapochnik is leaving House of the Dragon just as he signed a new first-run development deal with HBO that will give the network consideration for priority projects to start developing next. Sapochnik will remain attached to House of the Dragon as an executive producer alongside newcomer Alan Taylor, who will also executive produce and direct episodes in the show’s second season. In a statement about his departure, Sapochnik said it was “an honor and a privilege” to work on the series and expressed his confidence in Alan Taylor’s ability to make House of the Dragon an even stronger show. “I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished with the first season, and I’m delighted by the enthusiastic response from our viewers,” said Sapochnik. “It was incredibly difficult to decide to move on, but I know it’s the right choice for me, personally and professionally. As I do, though, I take deep comfort in knowing that Alan will be joining the series. He is someone I have known and respected for a long time, and I believe this valuable series could not be in safer hands.”
