Jonny Bairstow to miss T20 World Cup after ‘horrific’ golf injury
England all-rounder Jonny Bairstow has been ruled out of the rest of the summer and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia in October after suffering a “horrific injury” playing golf.
Bairstow suffered a “lower extremity injury” in an accident while playing golf in Leeds on Friday, according to the ECB’s website. He will see a specialist next week to determine the full extent of the injury.
It is believed Bairstow slipped while walking on a tee this morning, fracturing his left leg. The injury could potentially rule him out for the rest of the year, including December’s tour of Pakistan.
Nottinghamshire’s Ben Duckett has been added to England’s Test squad for the LV= Insurance Test at the Kia Oval starting next Thursday.
The series is currently tied 1-1 in the deciding third Test, in which Yorkshire’s Harry Brook is likely to make his Test debut in Bairstow’s absence.

England men’s cricket chief executive Rob Key had announced earlier on Friday that Bairstow would open the batting in the T20 World Cup, with England having dropped Jason Roy from the squad for the tournament.
A further announcement will be made in due course as to who will now replace Bairstow in England’s T20 World Cup squad.
Bairstow: ‘I’m blown away’
Bairstow reacted to the news with a post on Instagram. “Unfortunately I will not be available for all games/tours for the foreseeable future,” he wrote.
